About Us

The United EL Bethel Primitive Baptist Church was the first Baptist church to be established in the area now known as the EL Bethel Community. The words EL Bethel mean " GOD- The House of GOD." This church was constituted in 1837. A half acre plot of land was bought for $5.00 and a log house was used as a church building and a school house. By 1855 several families living in the community were Missionary Baptists. These needed a place to worship, and through the kindness of the EL Bethel Primitive Baptists, the log house was used by both churches for several years. Thus the EL Bethel Missionary Baptist church was constituted in 1855.

In 1867 the trustees of the EL Bethel Missionary Baptist church were authorized to buy a lot for the purpose of building a church house of it's own. These purchased a lot adjoining the lot of the Primitive Baptist Church. A frame building was erected sometime around 1867. In 1881, the few Primitive Baptist members met and decided to disband. Their church lot was deeded to the EL Bethel Missionary Baptist Church as a gift. In 1866 a lot containing two and three fourths acres was purchased, thus the property contained about four acres. In 1916 a new brick building was erected and dedicated on May 6, 1917.

In 1949 a house and three acres of land was purchased to be used as a pastors home. In 1966 an Educational Building was added to the church and dedicated on May 1, 1966. A new parsonage was built in 1977.

Due to rapid church growth the New Life Center was constructed in 2006 and we moved in it in December of 2007.  The new 100x100 building consists of a gym, fellowship hall, a large kitchen, eight classrooms, the pastor's office and bathrooms.  What a blessing!
